Stories
(sorry there's lots but it was a crazy frikin week)
- visited a new member in our ward, bro taylor, and his daughter was heccin adorable. they had some "spaceships" made out of cardboard with drawings on it. we went to outer space, and crashed a TON. we then also fixed the spaceship a ton. it was muy fun
- we went to the primary kids mutual, where they did cool bottle rocket science experiments. vinegar and baking soda, combined with a cork in a bottle turned upside down with forks taped to the sides as supports. those boys got YEETED it was LITTY
- no treato no mo. we were at a members house, the amazing sister thompson! she told us she was going off sweets until march first and she looked pretty down about it. so, i offered to do it with her! and she loved that. made her feel so much better! so... yeah. no treato no mo.
- we went to koi ramen, and i got sushi woohoooo!! always a highlight when i get sushi
- we went and gave our friend Cali some church movies! we were gonna go on some visits... but got real bad vibes. left the neighborhood quick. hm. we went and vibed with the ficklins, they felt very safe. and i played my electric guitar:))) heck yeah
- so..... bro yancey:( poor guy. he's a fairly recent convert, baptized by my good buddy elder kartchner prolly around 2 years ago. i had wanted to stop by for a while, and we did! we had a decent convo with him, and he told us he's done with the church. no more. had an altercation, had some problems with some other things allegedly. went back to the whole: "only the bible" thing, didn't seem to like the BoM anymore. had some issues understanding the coffee and tea situation, and uh, yeah. doesn't want us to come by. he was friendly, but... yeah. he even said he wouldn't care if he was excommunicated... yikes. still has a good heart, great beliefs and goals, wants to turn away from sin and all that. just lost his faith in the church as the one true church, and everything else fell after that one bad experience i think. good guy. definitely a really good guy. sad to see it happen:(
- started exchanges with elder davis! and i saw marvin! and now... here comes one of the fun stories hahaha
so, during the exchange, we went to go grab the other elders for lunch. couldn't find them, then they finally called us back. we went to grab them, and... well, two of the bikes got stolen when they were in a members house in a rougher part of town. so... that's unfortunate. they didn't take my bike actually, but they did take the other two. yikes. what can you do? we went and grabbed what we needed to, and left them to figure out all the police stuff.
we helped out a member, bro saari move, that was big sad. love him. we had to get some food storage out, and he went into a crawl space, at 95 years old, and helped us grab a bunch of really heavy food storage boxes... whatta legend. he can't even see yet he's doing all that stuff. crazy. elder tetris is back also haha yeet
went to see sal n co on exchanges!! it was great to see them, and get them introduced to elder davis:)
saw the dubs almost as well, just saw their oldest daughter cuz the rest of them were gone. told her to give them my love tho!
we went to the church to do some contacts, and saw the spanish elders! we told them about the bike thing, and went on our separate ways. right after we left, they called us and said they found 2 bikes with a "free" sign on them on the road. miracle!! went and threw em in the back of paco. that was litty
when we pulled up to re-exchange tho, we saw... the bikes. that had gotten stolen. in the garage. huh?? very confused. apparently the cops had found them, but the weird thing is that NOBODY had sent in a tip. so... that's interesting. just some kids who decided to snab them. but still... very weird how that all played out. and now we have 2 extra bikes hahahaha
overall tho, the exchange was good:) elder davis has been out around 3 weeks, and i got about 3 weeks left haha. so that was a fun dynamic. anywho,
- we decided to get and make a bunch of wings! so, i got them out to thaw earlier in the day. they weren't thawing fast enough, so i put em in the oven to retain the heat. i turned on the oven for about 60 seconds and then cancelled it, to get a little of the frozen cold out of there. about 30 mins later, while waiting for the elders, i did it again, just to help em out a little bit more
- went on visits with bro stephenson! here is how they went: - visited R, and R decided to have no shirt. heck yeah. anyway, he said he'd come back after he put a shirt on, and then never did haha. but i love brother stephenson, he's quickly becoming one of my most favorite people. We then went to visit L! I'll have the teaching stuff down in that section:)
- in the middle of L, i remembered.... right before we left..... when i turned the oven on for the chicken the second time while waiting for the other elders to get ready, with the intention of turning it off right before we left to dethaw the chicken just that much more. spoiler alert.... i forgot to turn it off. we uh.... rushed home from L's, to see a bunch of people standing outside our apartment on the phone, and sirens sounding in the distance. so of course, like any normal koby would do, i went inside of the apartment. nothing was on fire but oh man..... so much smoke. so much. turned off the fire alarm, pulled the oven out from it's place in the wooden cabinets and into the middle of the kitchen, and then opened all the windows in the apartment. so. much. smoke. yikes. the firemen got there, and brought a giant industrial fan to get all the smoke out. it worked very well. although.... our apartment smells very bad. like,,, VERY bad. we're taking countermeasures tho. and nothing really got burnt.... except the chicken hahahaha. check the photos, we got some good ones hehehehe
so that gave me the big anxiety. then, bro stephenson took us to roosters, to get wings hahaha:) i love him. those were dang good wings too. and i tried rocky mountain oysters haha. they actually really weren't bad... pretty decent actually. less..... circular than i had anticipated. yup.
- bro schwinn, gave us pasta. ooooh man. i was so full. it was hard to eat it. but i did it. heck yeah. go me. it did taste good but yeah. that was rough.
- church! so many people said they would come. they did not haha. but! Cali did, our returning member friend wade did, and those are two amazing people who i love very much:)
- that one RLDS missionary peter guy came to church again. asked for another BoM. interesting fellow. said he was writing a different version of the Book of Mormon without footnotes n stuff? idek. wanted to get it published and whatnot. no lo sei rick
- had a good ward co-op meeting hahaha. bro stephenson, (our WML), and sister mendenhall, (relief society rep), used to date, no cap. they didn't outright say it but... yeah. kinda funny, and almost awkward?? makes me laugh, it is quite humorous. i love both of them haha, they have great spirits about it tho:) it's really not that awkward. anyway
- p-day! drove all the way up the mesa. twas litty. bought too much stuff. yeet
Teaching Updates
- Cali was great, she loved the plan of salvation:) the elders taught her the gospel of Jesus Christ on exchanges, and extended a baptismal invitation! she said yeah:))) so now we're just thinking about a date!
- L.... yeah. we've visited her a few times, and had some promise being there with her. this time... was different. i'll spare a lot of the details, because they just shouldn't be put in, but suffice it to say, she was... not in a good state of mind. at all. her friends were dropping her off when we got there, we gave them our number. after the interesting meeting with our friend L, we got a call from the friend, well, a voicemail from him just,,, begging us to help her. i wish there was more we could do. i really do. we'll be continuing to try and visit her, but.... she isn't having a good time. yeah.
Spotlight
- daddy hanks. ily. been too long. miss you big dawg
- all my past comps. man, i love and miss you all. frikin legends.
My challenges for you
- be rigged to flip! one of our members gave a great analogy about rafting - we know bad things are going to come. so, we need to 'rig' our lives as if they may flip over at any given moment.
in a raft, you tie EVERYTHING down. EVERYTHING. because you will most likely flip at some point. at least, wherever this member goes rafting you do hahah
we need to make sure our lives and testimonies are formed in a way that will make sure that even if we get flipped, even if our faith gets tried, (and that one absolutely will happen, very often), we can be sure we will stay strong. strapped in. ready to flip back over, and lose nothing, but keep going the way we were.
so, that's the challenge for y'all this time around:) what part of your life can you rig more securely, in case you flip?
Every minute, every moment...there was Jesus.
