jaw machine broke #53
uhhhhhhhhhhhh no langooge. henlo peeps! welcome back to the semi-half-monthly email of Elder Smithy, who is no longer allowed to yawn. yup, you heard me right. my jaw is broke. this one is PACKED. SO much stuff happened this week.
This week's summary! (for my TLDR folks)
☆ almost two day exchanges with Elder Bailey!
☆ helped in a move with a dog named honey, and the most awesome kid ever
☆ our heater got fixed but the guy trashed on it the whole time
☆ joked about playing the piano then ended up playing the piano
☆ snowy sunset
☆ heard a word i hadn't heard in a very long time
☆ made my favorite cookies... and felt the spirit??
☆ surprise visited our friend Berry at her work:)
☆ got froze street contacting, but got to pet some dogs!
☆ watched youtube for the first time since coming on my mission (cuz of the jaw)
☆ aaaaaaand the jaw. i am not allowed to chew gum or ice the rest of my mission, and for the next 6 weeks i cannot sing, open my jaw past about 20 centimeters, or yawn. hmnrg.
☆ a silver platter
☆ THE FIREMAN
☆ HALF of our lights and outlets killed themselves. only half.
☆ I did not stop singing.
☆ all our ward boundaries changed in this stake! (which also happens to be our zone). we'll be having mini transfers tomorrow with all that happened.
Stories
- so i know this is the story yàall want to hear most, so here you go! had a meeting with a man Elder Miskin calls the bishop dentist. just a real cool spiritual guy, whoàs very funny and knows his way around jaws and teeth! here's what he said:
"I believe you are experiencing a mild form of TMD (Temporomandibular Dysfunction) and have experienced some mild joint issues that appear to be getting worse. It will take a long time to heal completely. I believe you are experiencing an anteriorly displaced meniscus or disk on the right side, usually with "relocation" after simple manipulation and a more current history of the disc not relocating easily, so your jaw "locks"."
if i understand correctly, this do be the scientific speak for "jaw machine broke". there's this thing that's supposed to be helping my jaw move, but it has dislocated. making my jaw click every single time i open or close it, and if i strain it, or chew too much with it, it locks up and i can't open it. so woohoo! only soft foods for this kid for the next 6 weeks. and very small bites. and a hot rag on my face 5 times a day. yup.
- there's a lot to cover, so i'll make these as short as possible. had exchanges with an awesome Elder named Elder Bailey! he's so cool. brand new on the mission, and has an awesome desire! he serves in naturita tho, which is in our zone technically, but it's about 2 hours away. big zone. there was expected to be a storm, and with the drive from that middle of nowhere, it's very much impossible with any sort of bad weather. so, we almost had 2 day exchanges! didn't happen, but it was a great time:)
- helped someone move! she has a dog named honey. honey is adorable. while we were helping them move, this kid just showed up and asked if he could help! whatta kid. mad respect for the homie
- we finally got our heater fixed! the guy fixing it trashed on it the whole time tho, it was pretty funny haha
- i joked about playing the piano with some members. bad idea. they requested every song i know, (which is about 2). good times
- y'all ever seen it be snowing but in the distance there's also a beautiful sunset? unmatched feeling. mmmmmmmm.
- i made my grandmothers cherry chip cookies. when i ate them tho... i felt such a rush of the spirit. my grandma must've liked that i ate her cookies! she was there with me 
- after our exchanges with the naturita elders, we were in ridgeway where our friend Berry works! we surprised her and she wasn't expecting us at all! it was a great time:)
- went street contacting and it was FREEZING. but we got to pet some dogs and talk to some cool peeps. so twas lit
- met with the dentist dude for my jaw and he showed me a youtube video of how it all worked. I'll have some screenshots of what's all jacked up in there in the photos album! basically, something has fallen out of place that makes my jaw lock and click. not always a great time haha
- so Elder Miskin and I were just chillin there, and all of a sudden all of our lights flicker and half of em go out? but only half. and half of the outlets. but the outlets that are on are the lights that are dead and vice versa. so weird. we got it all figured out through the breakers n whatnot but it was whacko
- so, one of the wards out here got dissolved, so a lotttt of transfers are happening tomorrow. our zone is getting all yoinked around! but that's super fun, i'll update y'all what's happening to me next week;)
Teaching Updates
- THE FIREMAN! ahhhh man! such a cool experience Friday night, we stopped by for a simple get-to-know you message. we felt very prompted to share the message of the restoration right after! (my personal favorite 
). he loved it! we knew he was very very busy, so we told him we wanted to be respectful of that while also wanting to meet with him often! he stopped us tho, and told us: "i'll make time for this". so that was BEAUTIFUL. so excited!
- so, we challenged a member to pray very specifically for a missionary opportunity on a silver platter. she was unsure, but next time we called her, she was with her non-member sister and niece! don't even think she realized that she had answers to her prayers, right then and there! we shared the restoration. on a silver platter:))
- everyone else is good:) our new friend KH got moved with the boundary change JUST after we put him on date. big sad. but, he's a baller at jenga!

- don't tell Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ how to help you. sounds harsh, but it's not i promise:) they know what's best, so let them help you!!!
