They did it again #23
ਹੈਲੋ ਲੋਕ! Welcome back to the semi half monthly email of an Elder who is so spiritually edified right now he may explode. (I've also been inspired by a good friends awesome emails to make mine more colorful. They will not be nearly as good as HH, but emoji time)
After one legendary Apostle talking to us, two 9 hour long bus rides, and way too many times singing the veggie tales theme song, I can confirm I have zero brain cells left. Maybe half. Of one. Not sure. Anyways,
Todays email is gonna be jam packed of pretty much purely spiritual goodness, so you're all in for a treat!
Elder Holland. That man is awesome. So funny. First thing he said when he walked in and saw all of us was: "I've seen all your pictures, the police are looking for you!" The Devotional was filled with jokes, table fist slamming, and enough stuff to write four pages straight in my notebook. Hes also just so insanely spiritual. And bold! He tells it to you straight. Obedience is key. Something I really liked that he said was along the lines of: "You have already accepted the call, and you have accepted to do it in the Lords way." That's nowhere near an exact quote, but thats the gist of it! And wow, we have! When we put in those papers, or for my non missionary friends, when we join Jesus Christs church and take His name upon us, we pledge to do it His way. As He has said, this is the way. We have already agreed to be obedient. Elder Holland also said: "Obedience is the first law of EVERYTHING." The commandments the Lord gives us aren't for our harm. They're for our own good.
One of my other favorites, (but lets be honest, everything he said was my favorite. This email could be literally hours long if i wanted) was this: "There are many kinds of sheep everywhere, and the Lord can't be iffy with his sheppards". For all my missionary buddies, this ones for you. The Lord has called you. Specifically you. To be where you are. Everything in your life is here for a reason. For those who have a reassignment and don't understand why, or even if you do. Here are some of my thoughts! I'm lucky to have an og assingment and be in it. But, with the very true fact that everything happens for a reason, maybe the reason you had a reassignment and aren't there is the reason you are where you are. Maybe you had to think you were going somewhere and then didn't. It's a huge trial, and getting through it may be exaclty what you needed. You may not go to your og. But if that happens, (and I am NOT saying to lose hope), then that is EXACTLY what needed to happen for you. God knows everything. And He has an exact, specific, infinitely perfect plan for YOU. That being said, Elder S Gifford Nielson, (who I'm lucky enough to call my Great Uncle), said to have all of you in your mission. Leave no part behind. All of you. Whether thats your og or your reassignment, thats where you need to be.
Ah man, now its time for some miracles! In my first transfer Elder Bye and I picked up this bodybuilder named Mike off of facebook. He is absolutely massive. He didn't seem very interested, and stopped talking to us so we dropped him. A few days ago, (literally 4 months later) he texted me and said "I'm ready to give my life to God" and then tried to call me. I called him back, and he told me there was a bunch of stuff that happened in his life recently that made him want to look for God. And that where it was at was with us! Super flippin cool, I helped him get the number of the missionaries where he lived, which is in Georgia, and then before I got them to him he actually found their number and messaged them before I could. Whatta guy. Can't wait to see the places he goes!
So, the last miracle fo today, we started teaching our friend Laurie! Again. She wasn't ever taught by us, but other missionaries in the past have! She wanted to be baptized when she was a minor but wasn't able to, so we asked her if she was still interested in that. She said she was, but the only thing holding her back was beer. (Sorry to Elder B-bubz, who already heard this story. Ily!) Anyways, after she told us that, we talked very boldly about the word of wisdom, and she mentioned how bad most soda was for you, especially mountain dew. So, me and Elder Hassard told her that we would stop drinking bad soda if she stopped drinking beer. Indefinitely. So, I will not be drinking mountain dew ever again. For the rest of my life. Or other bad sodas. Mannnnn this is gonna be,,,,,, SO FUN. It's okay tho, if Laurie can go off beer than we can go off soda. And if it's more healthy and naturally flavored then its fine, so I can still have my orange Italian soda. Yeet.
This is very long. But hopefully you read it all and got some very good spiritual enlightenment. The title comes from Elder Holland saying "they did it again!" About Lehi and Nephi teaching with great power and authority! And said thats what we should title the Devo. "They did it again!" I will end by saying: bazinga!
That may have been cringy, but I do not care. I love that word. Okay byeeeee-Elder Kobo
